Garden to table - URBAN LIVING

Scope: interior renovation, kitchen remodel, interior design, project management, lighting design, custom cabinetry design, furniture selection, interior decor, styling & accessories
The homeowners of this sweet cottage wanted their valued garden-to-table lifestyle reflected in their small, nearly untouched 1950s urban home. What started as a paint color consult quickly turned into a full-on home renovation. The family wanted to incorporate a handful of family keepsakes as diverse as paintings, a pair of glasses, a magnifying glass, and a vintage coffee pot. Since the family includes a large dog, it was essential to consider cleanability and durable materials.
We designed this project in partnership with the homeowners and were asked to oversee the renovation of the less than 600 square foot common living area and an additional master bedroom refresh. Mindful of the size of the house, we opened the kitchen and living spaces up to one another. An old chimney and partial wall were removed between the kitchen and living area and replaced with a custom-designed triple-use peninsula and oversized pantry. We mapped out a new lighting design and selected fixtures to accommodate the room’s low ceilings and highlight the various task areas. Custom cabinets and open shelving provided the homeowners with nearly 30% more storage. read less.. read more
“We could not be happier with our new home. We have been involved with remodels and additions to our homes for thirty years. We were grateful for the many questions and points Sat Hari raised as options we’d not considered before we finally committed to a massive shift in the way our house operated. After working with Sat Hari, we have learned there is a hidden expense of NOT going with a designer.
Sat Hari kept us up to date on resources spent and expenditures were further divided into categories to clarify purchases and how she used her time. It was easy to see how our project was unfolding. Did it go over budget? Well, yes. And Sat Hari had forewarned us that this could happen, pointed out when it was likely to happen, and we take full responsibility for the choices that asked for more of her time and/or higher quality materials. We are so happy with all that we chose and would do it all over again if given the chance!”
